Soccer Training and Drills by Premiersoccergoals.com / Drill#2

Do you have coach soccer players that are timid, shy of the ball, or not aggressive enough? This drill is for you! Reduce the size of the field to 1/2 or 1/4 of the field and use a smaller goal like a pop-up soccer goal or a 4x6 soccer goal on each side.

-Have two players on the sideline.

-The coach will initiate the play and kick the ball in.

-The players will sprint to be first to the ball, then will either attack or defend.

-Play stops when a goal is scored, or the ball goes out of play.

-Next two players are up next.

Why is this a good drill? It forces the players to sprint and be first to the ball. There are no teammates to hide behind, and the players quickly realize that if they do not act, they will lose. This 1v1 drill forces action as the players quickly realize there is no help, and it's up to them to make something happen.
